Artist statement
Art does not happen on canvas. It happens inside the mind of the observer.
The darkness in my paintings is a wall I build around them. Light does not illuminate — it lays bare. What the figure would rather keep to themselves. In every painting, light is the other character.
Bio
Dariusz Strzeboński (b. 1984, Kraków, Poland) — painter, oil on canvas. Lives and works in Wieliczka. Painting since 2022. His work depicts people observed in private moments and places marked by absence. He works with a dark, restrained palette and isolated colour accents. Light in his paintings functions as an autonomous presence — it does not complete the scene but opens it.
